Latest CBSE Syllabus for Class 11 of English Core 2017-18

Here, latest syllabus of CBSE Syllabus for Class 11 English Core (Code No. 301) for the session 2017-18. The new session has started and board updated the new syllabus. There is no change made in the syllabus and exam pattern.

The question paper will be of 80 marks. Assessment of Listening and Speaking skills will be conducted of 20 marks.

Section - A - Reading Comprehension

• Two unseen passages (including poems): VSAQs/SAQs/MCQs
→ A passage: 550-600 words in length
→ A passage: 350-400 words in length OR
An unseen poem of about 28-35 lines.

Section - B - Writing skills and Grammar

• SAQs: Notice/ poster/ advertisement
• Long Answer Questions: Letters
→ Letter types may include:
(a) business or official letters
(b) letters to the editor
(c) application for a job with a bio-data or resumé
(d) letter to the school or college authorities.
• Very Long Answer Question: Composition in the form of article, speech, report writing or a narrative

Grammar

• Short answer type and MCQ type questions.
→ Error Correction, editing tasks
→ Re-ordering of sentences
→ Transformation of sentences

Section - C - Literature and Long Reading Text/Novels

• VSAQs - Based on an extract from poetry
• SAQs - Based on prose, poetry and plays from both the texts.
• Long Answer Question - Based on prescribed texts (Value Based Question may be asked)

Novels

→ Long Answer Questions - Based on theme, plot, incidents or events from the prescribed novels.
→ Long Answer Question - Based on understanding appreciation, analysis and interpretation of the
characters.

Assessment of Listening and Speaking Skills : 20 Marks
